As we prepare to say goodbye to 2008 and ring in the New Year, I decided to re-visit one-by-one all of our previous Featured Weddings, which have been posted, including the vendor details on our MySpace page. Looking at the Featured Wedding brings back many memories, not just of the wedding being profiled, but of all the brides we've helped marry, all the birthdays we were there to celebrate with, all the military promotions and events, and most importantly, all the people we've met and who have supported our business. We will always cherish the memories and cakes of 2008, and look forward to many more in 2009!

Next Featured Wedding Sneak Peek - Leslie and Sam - You Asked for It, You Got It!

All images courtesy of Bianca Photography
Leslie and Sam, our next Featured Wedding couple on cakelava.com, are like rock stars on our blog. Their wedding has been mentioned three times now, and this time, it's because of you! We profiled Leslie and Sam's wedding back in late August, shortly after they were married. At the time, we didn't know they would become a Featured Wedding couple, but we always remembered their vibrant tropical wedding and added them to our list of our nominees when we asked you to cast your vote for your favorite wedding. It was an overwhelming response, and thanks to you, Leslie and Sam have now reached royalty status (at least in cakelavaland) and will become our King and Queen for the next month.
We'll be posting Leslie and Sam's wedding on our website in the next couple of days, along with their list of vendors, including the coordinator and her team of professionals who designed this beautiful event, Mona Hirata of Weddings by Grace & Mona.
These lovely images wouldn't be possible if it weren't for husband and wife photography team Bianca and Grant Gomes of Bianca Photography. We'd like to send them a huge shout-out and thank them for spoiling us with photographic eye-candy every time we work together.
To Leslie and Sam, it's your month!

Kelly and Dominick's Disney-fied Wedding

Yesterday we shared Kelly and Dominick's Fantasia themed wedding cake, and today we're showing a few details of this Disney-fied wedding. I feel it is necessary to state that the above castle is not a cake, and not something we made. All the "props" of the wedding were placed by the bride and groom. This Disney castle and character figurines greeted their guests as they entered the reception room. To to the right of the castle the couple laid out confetti Mickey heads and porcelain plates with the same silhouette.

Giant Pluto figurine wearing a Christmas wreath was the centerpiece for a guest table. The couple's colors were red and white. Notice the Mickey Mouse head confetti pieces scattered around the rose petals.

Loved this little (BIG) Minnie Mouse centerpiece. Isn't she just the cutest, and all ready for Christmas too!

I'm guessing Mickey Mouse must be their guy because Kelly and Dominick chose him for their sweetheart table, and also for their wedding cake topper. True lovers of Disney don't mind having their view slightly obstructed by a giant figurine, and he is pretty cute, I gotta admit.

Christmas ornament made by the couple for their guest favors. Inside the ornament is a photo of the couple taken with, what else, a Disney character. I believe it's Stitch.
View from one side of the glass ballroom looking out onto the grounds of the golf course. Goofy appears to be enjoying the view.Kelly and Dominick, thank you for giving us the opportunity to have fun with your cake! We wish both of you all the best and hope you enjoy your honeymoon at the Happiest Place on Earth!

Fantasia Wedding Cake

Life has been a little hectic for us lately, hence, the slight lag in the blog. We've had one good thing after another happen in our lives, and in the middle of all of the craziness, a super FUN cake -- a Disney's Fantasia themed wedding cake for Kelly and Dominick, who were married on Saturday. For those of you not living on Oahu, this past weekend was a wet one. Rains were heavy, there were power outages, and flooding on parts of the island, and with all the water covering our island, as I look back on it now, I realize how fitting it was that we would do a cake covered in water for the wedding. Luckily, Kelly and Dominick had an indoor wedding and reception and kept themselves and their guests dry.
Kelly and Dominick are Disney fanatics, so of course had to have all their favorite Disney characters sharing in their special day with them. We'll feature a few of the details on the blog tomorrow, but in the meantime, a little about the couple's wedding. They combined their Favorite Place on Earth (Disneyland of course) with one of the happiest times of the year (Christmas of course). They are huge collectors of anything Disney and I was told by a friend of the couple that their home resembles the Disney Store. For their wedding cake, they wanted something wonky and fun, and Rick had the idea of the Fantasia cake, sketched it out for them, they fell in love with it, and the result is above. Everything on Rick's Fantasia cake is handcrafted. No toys were purchased, (or damaged) in the making of this cake. Every whimsical broom figure with water was made by hand, as was their custom Mickey Mouse as sorcerer topper. Very time consuming to make, but totally worth it! Obviously chocoholics, Kelly and Dominick went for our Hot Fudge Sundae flavor for the entire cake, and had us omit the raspberry preserves and substitute chocolate cream for the vanilla. They didn't want to taint the chocolate flavor with anything else *wink*. Rick opted to for buttercream rather than fondant for their sculpted wedding cake.
Tomorrow we'll show a few of the Disney details they chose for their wedding.
Until next time, Aloha!
