Princess Alexandra Turns Five

With all the love in the air over the past weekend, you probably expected to see one of our wedding cakes on the blog today. We'll share some of them in the near future. Today is all about Alexandra's Disney Princesses themed 5th birthday cake made for her party over the weekend. She chose three of her favorite Disney Princesses -- Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Belle from Beauty & The Beast, and Rick hand-painted one on each tier of her cake and surrounded it with a delicate gold filligree pattern. He adorned the Hawaii Five-o and Chocolate Dream flavored cake with handcrafted roses, hearts and butterflies. We thought Alexandra's parents did a fantastic job setting the environment outdoors at their home. Everything was perfectly color and theme coordinated, including their bouncy house, which had the Disney Princesses on it. Very cute!

Ivory and Gold Elegance

Last night officially started our Valentine's Day weekend. For this intimate and beautiful wedding reception, we drove out to the Niu Beach area, on the east side of the island to an estate that apparently was one of John Travolta's former homes. Our couple had a much larger wedding last weekend and this was a second reception more intimate in nature, for their family and close friends. We do many weddings that are much larger size, but I love the intimate gatherings as well, especially when thought has obviously been put into the decor. This ocean front property had an amazing view of Koko Head crater, not to be confused with the famous Diamond Head crater. The event coordinator, working with Todd from Always Flowers set up a beautiful scene of ivory and gold. For their cake, we went more on the whimsical side which they wanted, and added the couples intials to the top of the cake. They were overjoyed with the cake, and the mother of the bride practically squealed when she saw it. All in all, a great way to kick off the Valentine's Day weekend!

Aloha, til next time!

Ah Love. Isn't it Grand!

Ah Love. Isn't it Grand! Another Valentine's Day weekend is approaching and the cycle of love begins again. Countless couples will get engaged, and engaged couples will get married (we have several), and those of us already married will celebrate our love, just as we do everyday. As people who make their living designing for those celebrating love, be it a couple in love or the love of a parent and child or a friend, without the celebration of love, we wouldn't have a business.

In honor of LOVE and Valentine's Day, we have put together a showcase of some of our couples with their cake as they celebrate their love. A number of these photos can be found in our Ohana section on cakelava.com. It makes us feel happy and romantic just looking at them!

Attention Readers, Please Note ...

As you may know, Google has acquired Feedburner and is requiring all users to move their feed. Please note, effective immediately, our new feed address:

Hopefully this transition will go smoothly with no major hiccups. I believe it's just a matter of re-subscribing in your reader. We also made some changes on our sidebar to accommodate the transfer, which should help things. It's a tad confusing for all involved and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Cheers!

Sasha & Rick
