Sushi for the Boss
For those who don't already know this, today is National Donut Day. Go out and support the donut industry and buy yourself a dozen or two! Donuts are one of Rick's favorite foods. If we had a Krispy Kreme here on Oahu, we would have stopped in to bring some to work, instead we'll probably hit our local Safeway. Hawaii isn't exactly known for its donut shops but does have *great* malasadas. We got spoiled living in L.A. where donut shops abound. Our friend Liz who recently moved to North Carolina (home of the first Krispy Kreme), asked if there was anything we needed we can't get in Hawaii to give a holler and she'll send it over. Liz, how about a box of Krispy Kremes? ;-)
Our other vice is sushi. We absolutely LOVE sushi and always enjoy making a good sushi cake. Most recently yesterday, when our client ordered one of Rick's custom sculpted sushi platters for her boss's birthday party. See our Sculpted Cakes section on our website for other examples. Yesterday's sushi platter included Maguro tuna, salmon, unagi, ikura, tamago, and a california roll. All the components of the platter were handcrafted by Rick. There was nothing fishy about the flavor -- Peanut Butter Fudgey. It was a beautiful presentation and made us both hungry. We may just have to go get some sushi this weekend.
