Dad's Baseball Cake

In the early part of May, Rick's parents flew across the country to spend some time with us and take in the beautiful sights of Oahu. We felt lucky that we had a chance to see them since it's difficult for us to get away to visit them because of our business. We tried to clear our schedule as much as time would allow to spend with them, and limited the number of orders we accepted for that weekend. Not that you would know this based on the six cakes Rick made, which included the sculpted R2-D2, the orange B&B cake featured yesterday, the black fondant military cake, the Doctor McGillicuddy's bottle among others. Our intent was to spend more time with his mother and father sightseeing and less time doing cakes. Of course, you can't have a parent come to visit at a time close to their birthday and not make them a birthday cake, so we decided to make Rick's Dad his very own New York Yankees sculpted baseball cake in honor of his favorite team. We didn't want to go over the top for his cake because that would take time away from our visit with them and it's more important to have that time together than say, a Yankee Stadium cake, and what would the four of us do with all that cake anyway? It was the perfect amount to give us all a BIG slice of cake with vanilla ice cream (yum!) and still have plenty of leftovers. For his dad we chose our Kona Toffee Crunch with white cake and put a layer of ganache in there as well. He loves coffee, the taste and smell of it. In the photo above, Rick's father is holding a t-shirt he got that is dyed with coffee. We had a great visit with his parents and in the blink of an eye they were gone. We will treasure our memories and photos of the visit until we see them again. Happy Birthday Dad! Love, Rick and Sasha.
