A Chic, Black and Ivory Affair

Jaime and Matthew's black and ivory wedding cake, delivered to Lanikuhonua only 2 days ago, is still so fresh in our minds, we can practically smell the icing. Although Jaime and Matt booked our services last year, it wasn't until we had a chance to meet them in person a few months ago that their cake was designed. Whenever possible, Rick likes to sit down with the couple to get a sense of their style and the vibe of the wedding to keep in mind when he is designing their cake. We knew instantly when we met Jaime and Matt that we were going for a chic, yet bold wedding cake with modern shapes and patterns. Rick used a variety of techniques in designing their cake and the result was spectacular and caught the attention of wedding guests and vendors alike. Dianna of Hawaii Weddings and Events coordinated the wedding along with a list of stellar vendors like photographer Chrissy Lambert, The Catering Connection, Flowergirls, and cakelava for their wedding cake. As with any event we do with The Catering Connection, owner Bruce Watanabe and his crew make everything look perfect and is such a pleasure to work with!

Congratulations to Jaime and Matthew! May your new life together bring you much happiness!

Next Featured Wedding Sneak Peek - Carisse and Todd

All images courtesy of Chrissy Lambert Photography

Our next Featured Wedding on cakelava.com can be described as Gorgeous and Unforgettable! Carisse and Todd are a gorgeous couple, the colors and decor were striking, the vendors did an incredible job and Rick amazed everyone with their jaw dropping wedding cake -- which will remain a surprise until we reveal it in their Featured Wedding. Carisse and Todd were a true pleasure to work with and such a gracious couple. They booked us about a year out and left the cake design completely up to Rick's imagination. They encouraged creativity, FUN, and wanted lots of color, and it was clear when they showed us some of Rick's cake styles they liked that we were in for a very good time with this couple!

Carisse and Todd's wedding at the picturesque Lanikuhonua, happened less than a month ago, on April 26th, the same date of the I Love Kailua Town party we did, with the hundreds of cupcakes. To see our adventures leading up to Carisse and Todd's wedding, you can read about it on the blog. We were beyond tired and running purely on adrenaline when we arrived at their wedding and were instantly met by both Carisse and Todd and a whole bunch of their guests who treated Rick like a rock star. Jennifer and Michael - Pillows and Elegance at Lanikuhonua

Jennifer, a yoga instructor, and Michael knew they wanted a unique and elegant wedding cake that would honor their love of yoga and Indian culture and fit in with their tropical "lounge" ambience at Lanikuhonua for their August 1, 2008 wedding. When we met with Jennifer, she brought many photos of Krishna and Radha representing immortal love, photos of her and Michael in various yoga poses, and Indian prints for inspiration. Rather than have the traditional stacked wedding cake with the Indian and yoga inspirations, Rick suggested sculpted pillows with Indian prints and Jennifer and Michael loved the idea. She wanted opulent colors in vibrant, jewel tones and to incorporate her swirl, which is seen in her white tattoo shown above. The swirl motif is also present on her website for her yoga studio. In collaborating with Rick, Jennifer wanted to bring in a tropical Hawaiian element, and a lei and the blue board representing ocean fit the bill perfectly. All props on the cake were handcrafted by Rick and the pillows are all cake. The couple chose two of our tropical flavors for their cake -- Broke Da Mouth and Guava Lava, which added even more vibrant color to their wedding cake.

The cake looked amazing in the tropical lounge atmosphere that their coordinator, the excellent Sandra Williams of Finishing Touch had designed for them along with their vendors, Yvonne Floral , Les Saisons for custom linens, Cater to Me for their cuisine, and Chrissy Lambert Photography to document their special day. Note: the photos above were by cakelava.

Jennifer and Michael, we wish you many years of happiness together!! The cake design was a fun collaboration. Thank you for sharing your special day with us.
