Next Featured Wedding Sneak Peek - Lesley and Jason

Our next Featured Wedding on cakelava.com pretty much selected itself. We got a CD in the mail from the talented photographic team at Visionari and the images were so pretty and the black and white wedding so striking we couldn't ignore it. Plus, they had the most precious flower girl. This wedding must be featured! Lesley and Jason were married on January 14, 2009, at the historic Moana Surfrider Resort on Waikiki Beach. The ceremony took place on the Terrace overlooking the ocean and the reception was held indoors in the Rooftop Garden, a lovely intimate space filled with light and views of Waikiki. Lesley and Jason selected a color palette of black and white and their florals in soft pinks and whites. They hired coordinator Lissa Wilson of The Wedding Planners, who always designs a beautiful event, and left the rest up to their vendors -- Always Flowers for floral design, cakelava for their wedding cake, Leslie Gallagher for hair and makeup, Video 21 Productions for videography.

Lesley and Jason, who reside in Canada, wanted an unusual wedding cake with a fly-fishing theme, since the groom loves to fly fish. We've done many cakes with the ocean fishing theme, but not too many with the river fishing theme. Apart from a fishing themed topper Lesley provided us to add onto the cake, and their black and white color scheme, Rick was given free reign on the design of the cake. They wanted it to be fun and memorable, and that's exactly what we gave them.

Next Featured Wedding Sneak Peek - Christina and Steve

Christina and Steve's wedding at the Loulu Palm Estate on the North Shore was one of our first weddings of 2009 and it sure was a pretty one. It was an obvious choice as a Featured Wedding on cakelava.com because it was stylish and beautiful, incorporated the bride's Greek heritage, and brought together many top-notch vendors we love working with. Christina and Steve chose a white color palette, and brought in accent colors such as celadon green and brown, which added a modern, tropical touch to their wedding. The always fabulous Sandra Williams of Finishing Touch coordinated and designed their event, along with florist Yvonne of Yvonne Design, Troy Michael of DJ Entertainment, catering by Chef Elmer Guzman at Catering Connection, and cakelava for the wedding cake. Photographer Stefanie Riedel of Absolutely Loved was there to capture every moment shared by the couple and their guests. Stefanie seemed like a perfect match for Christina and Steve, with her artful, romantic style, the images were absolutely gorgeous!

The Loulu Palm Estate provided the breathtaking ocean-front views, perfect for this romantic and affectionate couple. Christina and Steve's wedding reception is being showcased on the Loulu Palm Estate website as well, but doesn't include their colorful traditional Greek ceremony held at the St. Constantine and Helen's Greek Orthodox Church, which is definitely worth a look!

For Christina and Steve's cake, we went mostly white with dark brown and celadon green accents and incorporated a star pattern found on their paperie. Rick did an exquisite job on their cake and it was a strong focal point at the wedding. It was clear our couple LOVES chocolate, and chose our Hot Fudge Sundae and Kona Toffee Crunch (with chocolate cake of course) for their flavor.

Now for the girly stuff. Christina's wedding gown was made by designer Claire Pettibone , and her Dolce and Gabbana shoes definitely made a statement! Congratulations to Christina and Steve! See more of Christina and Steve's wedding on cakelava.com, coming soon!

Next Featured Wedding Sneak Peek - Leslie and Rocky

January's Featured Wedding on cakelava.com starts 2009 off with Leslie and Rocky's BIG, opulent, purple and white/black checkerboard BLING-ed out extravaganza wedding at Lanikuhonua on Saturday, November 1, 2008. Lanikuhonua's most extravagant wedding required a 2-day set up time. 2-days to set up, 500 guests, multiple tents and outside lounge areas, custom ice sculptures by Iceculture, Inc. out of Canada, security detail, a big wedding cake and groom's cake, and a Hawaii vendor list to drool over, starting with the team responsible for coordinating this amazing event, Weddings by Grace & Mona.

Leslie and Rocky were an obvious choice for us to feature. This fun-loving couple's wedding was the perfect blend of over-the-top elegance combined with a playful black and white checkerboard racing car theme, and some serious bling thrown in for good measure. One look at the fabulous images captured by Chrissy Lambert Photography, you'll see this is a couple who doesn't take themselves too seriously and fun is definitely the name of the game!

I'll never forget when we first met with Leslie and Rocky and they arrived at our studio in a vehicle almost too large for the parking space. Rick and I were looking out our window seeing if they would fit. Not only was the vehicle large with big wheels, it was tall. They were funny, sweet and down to earth, and looking forward to their wedding. Little did they know just how awesome it would be ...
