She's a Little Bit Elegant, He's a Little Bit Rock-N-Roll

It's no secret that Rick and I are hardcore music fanatics, and relish any opportunity we can to be near music. It's been that way our whole lives, and those occasions where we're able to marry two of our most passionate loves, music and cake, in one harmonious and delectable piece of art, well, we both get a little giddy. We've been excited about Marchelle and Tom's wedding for months. Simply put, she's a little bit girly and elegant and he's a little bit rock-n-roll, and the union of the two are a perfect pairing. On Friday night, these two East Coasters celebrated their love in Waikiki with a reception room decked out in vibrant reds, purples and pinks, and two cakes that couldn't be more different, and worked beautifully together. Marchelle's cake was elegant with gorgeous tropical handcrafted flowers, in our Mixed Berries Chantilly flavor. For Tom's groom's cake, a chocolate cake filled with fudge, Rick sculpted a standing Epiphone guitar that looked so realistic Marchelle told us she had guests asking if it would be played later that evening.

Marchelle and Tom, we hope you felt like rock stars on your special day!

We'll be posting a photo of the sculpted Epiphone guitar on cakelava.com with our next updates!

Rocky's Sprint Car Groom's Cake

Happy Monday Everyone! Before we get into today's post, we want to thank all of you who took the time to cast your vote for your favorite couple to be our December Featured Wedding. We are pleased to announce that couple #4 Leslie and Sam, won by a landslide and will be our December Feature! Congratulations to Leslie and Sam and also their awesome photography team at Bianca Photography who we had to pleasure to work with on another wedding over the weekend. Looking forward to those images too!

Today's post we're dedicating to our good pal Liz in North Carolina. Liz has been a diehard supporter of cakelava since our humble beginnings, and claims she is Rick's biggest fan. Liz spent a number of years working for Weddings By Grace & Mona, one of the premier wedding coordination teams in Hawaii and has since relocated. On Saturday, one of Liz's couples' Leslie and Rocky were married, in an extravagant wedding for their 400+ guests out at Lanikuhonua. Their fabulous purple and checkerboard event with a racing car theme was full of bling -- crystals everywhere! We made two cakes for the couple, a purple 5-tier wedding cake and a very special Sprint racing car for Rocky's groom's cake. We want Liz to know we were thinking of her and that the wedding was a huge success thanks to Mona's crew! Since we had to run off to another wedding immediately after, we weren't able to shoot many photos to share with all of you, but here's a small taste, just a teaser really, til we get the professional photos from their photographer. Special thanks to AJ, at Weddings by Grace & Mona for providing us with a few photos from the event!

Liz, these are for you!

Rusty's awesome bright blue sculpted Sprint car Groom's cake!

Just one of the many gorgeous purple tabletops designed by the uber-talented team at Yvonne Floral Design. (wish I had a better photo of this)

A giant Ice Patron sculpture! There is SO much more I wish I could share, but it will have to wait for pro photos.

'til tomorrow ... Aloha!

Natalie and Justin - Absolutely Memorable in Waikiki

All photos courtesy of Absolutely Loved: Stefanie and Anna Riedel

If Natalie and Justin’s names sound familiar, it’s because they have been featured on our blog before. Remember the sweet couple who gifted us on their wedding day with a full cooler of fish they brought over from Alaska?

As a couple, Natalie and Justin are hard to forget. Not because they brought us fish or had two awesome cakes at their wedding, but two warm-hearted beautiful people, are especially difficult to forget once we’ve seen the images of their wedding. One of our favorite photographic teams, the absolutely wonderful Stefanie and Anna Riedel of Absolutely Loved sent us some of their favorite images from Natalie and Justin’s wedding in Waikiki last month. These images truly captured Absolutely Loved’s gorgeous romantic style as well as Natalie and Justin’s radiance on their wedding day.

Thanks to Stefanie and her daughter Anna, for sharing with us their amazing work! Visit absolutelyloved.com to see more.

Check out both of Natalie and Justin's cakes and many more new cakes on cakelava.com!
