Cake Inspired by Candy Land

www.cakelava.com
One of our new favorite Candy Land themed cakes, Rick made this adorable cake for a 2 year old's birthday party last weekend. Our client flew in from Las Vegas to celebrate with her family and friends and requested a Candy Land theme with lollipops, ice cream cones, peppermint candy and the Candy Land sweets trail, and she got all that she asked for, and more! Rick made all the candy by hand, and included a large variety of goodies on the cake. Both the client and Rick felt "old school" was the way to go for the design. Not knowing in advance what her little girl's cake would look like, our client was so excited when she saw the cake and couldn't wait to show it off at the party.  She chose flavors both sweet (Hot Fudge Sundae) and tropical (Guava Lava) for the cake.  I love the addition of the happy face lollipops and that is exactly how this cake made us feel.  Happy!

Candy Cake, Wonka-Style!

February was a month of insanity, ending with a weekend to trump other weekends in terms of difficulty of designs and volume of orders. Working on less sleep than usual and doses of caffeine, we got through the February 28th-March 1st weekend of cakes, and we would be kicking back on our lanai celebrating right about now if it weren't almost time to leave for a wedding tonight. During this week, we will be revealing a number of these cakes made over the weekend and not one of them is simple. Case in point, this birthday cake took the candy theme and wonky to another level and really capitalized on what Rick has become known for, truly custom, artful and unpredictable designs. Putting the entire design into Rick's hands, our client gave us her colors and let his imagination run wild. You'll notice the butterflies on the cake because the birthday girl's theme was candy and butterflies. What good is a candy cake if you can't indulge in everything on it. All components on this cake were handcrafted and completely edible, and no butterflies were harmed in the making of this cake. The inside of this wonky candy cake was just as scrumptious on the inside as it was eye-catching on the exterior, with her chosen flavors of Peanut Butter Fudgey and Bananarama. Hopefully this whimsical FUN cake will bring an evening of sweet dreams to birthday girl Gia!

Now that's a candy cake!

Another busy week behind us. One of yesterday's events was for Nicholas' 1st Birthday party. The theme of the party was CANDY and lots of it! From the 3-tier custom designed all-edible candy themed cake Rick created to the candy bar stocked with goodies, and the centerpieces, candy was everywhere. Even the giant inflatable bouncy had pictures of candy bars on them. I can't even begin to imagine how hyped up the kids must have been by the time the party was over. Yikes! For the candy cake, they chose our Bananarama flavor -- banana cake with fresh bananas, caramel cream and chocolate ganache. We hope Nicholas and all his guests had a fun and memorable 1st birthday. It was a sweet beginning for an adorable boy!
